Harpoon3 Scenario and Database Download
1980 - 2015 Timeframe
| The DB2000 database was developed as a replacement for the original Harpoon3 database, with strong emphasis on detail, technical accuracy, consistency and thoroughness. The scenarios and database are platform independent, and will work with both PC and Macintosh versions of Harpoon 3. Hundreds of scenarios have been built by members of the community thus far, and additionally the best twenty-seven original scenarios from the CD have been updated to work with the database. |

Gaming tips
Due to all the bugs and weird behaviour in version 3.7 and 3.8, we *STRONGLY* recommend that you continue to use version 3.6 of the game until further notice. If you read the various forum posts on the 3.7 and 3.8 releases, you’ll see there isn’t much in those versions that actually work.
The developer’s horrible planning, their limited understanding of naval warfare, plus their poor testing has resulted in hundreds of newly introduced bugs that make the game unplayable. And it gets worse with each new release. The scenarios they ship with the game are not compatible with the game engine any more, and the database will not work as intended. The scenario editor has been released in a dysfunctional and untested state, and not even the AGSI ‘experts’ (uhm, right… LOL!) know how to use the ‘updated’ database editor. Version 3.7 and 3.8 are also far less stable than 3.6, and run considerably slower.
Worse, it seems like that the MS/Access editor needed to upgrade the database from 3.6 to 3.8 may not be released to the public. Since the 3.6 scenarios don’t work with the 3.8 game engine, it may seem that new customers will not be able to play any of the user-created scenarios hosted here on the HarpoonHQ, or anywhere else on the web.
It was also interesting to note that Matrix /AGSI ‘upped’ the version number on their product from 3.7 to 3.8 without actually fixing any real bugs. This seems to be a ‘clever’ move to get rid of the horrible 3.7 reputation and try to sell a handful more games… brilliant…
As such, we strongly recommend that people stick to 3.6 until 3.7 or 3.8 (or whatever new version number the Matrix /AGSI may suddenly decide to give their buggy product) until further notice.
Lastly, we’re really interested in knowing how they expect to sell 3.7/3.8 to the professional users in the military. There’s nothing in that code that works the way it should anymore. Perhaps Matrix /AGSI could comment on this please?
