The 212 is a development of the UH-1H/Model 205. The main difference
is replacement of the Lycoming T-53 turboshaft with a P & W
Canada PT6T Turbo Twin-Pac power plant. This mates two PT6 turboshafts
to a single combining gearbox. Power is significantly increased
with consequent performance enhancements. Agusta of Italy has produced
a large number of the Bell 212 under licence. They have developed
ASW, AEW and EW versions for various customers. Under the USMC's
H-1 upgrade program the UH-1Ns will receive a new four bladed rotor,
a glass cockpit and two GE T700 turboshafts. After the upgrade they
will be UH-1Y.
