The Dauphin 2, as the name suggests, is a development of the original
SA 360 Dauphin. The SA 360 was a single engined helicopter but the
new SA 365C Dauphin 2 introduced twin Arriel turboshafts and was
a much improved helicopter. Soon superseded by the more powerful
SA 365N only a few C models entered military service. The SA 365N
has been quite successful and forms the basis for the military SA
565 Panther. The Panther can perform armed or unarmed battlefield
transport roles and also is available in a maritime version with
optional ASW gear and ASM capability.
