Kamov Ka-27 Ka-28 & Ka-32

The Ka-27 (NATO name 'Helix') was developed by Kamov to replace its earlier Ka-25 in the ASW role. Featuring the same counter rotating coaxial rotor arrangment as its predecessor the Ka-27 is similarly compact but much more powerful. The aircraft features improved radar, dipping sonar and better processing for its disposable sonobouys. The new helo could also operate in the dipping sonar role at night which was not possible with the Ka-25. The Ka-28 is a downgraded version for the export market while the Ka-32 is a civilian transport variant which has been observed on Russian naval vessels in Aeroflot markings.
