Saab 32 Lansen

The Lansen entered service with the Swedish air force in 1955 and the last examples were not withdrawn from service until 1997. The first version was the A 32A all weather attack variant powered by the RM5A2 (RR Avon 100). Subsequent versions were the J 32B all weather and night fighter and the S 32C reconnaissance aircraft. The J 32 B introduced the more powerful RM6A (RR Avon 200) engine, new avionics, new radar, 30mm cannon replacing 20mm units in the A 32A and a strengthened structure to cope with air combat maneuvering. The J 32B also employed versions of the Sidewinder AAM. Lansens were withdrawn from frontline service in the 1970s but converted J 32D target tug and J 32E EW trainer versions lasted until 1997.
