rated at 72,600hp (55 MW) and two indigenous diesels (Chinese copy
of the MTU 20V956TB92) rated at 8,840 hp (6.5 MW).
Description: The Type 052B class is new indigenous
Chinese destroyer design. Employing both Russian and Chinese weapons
and sensors the class represents a great improvement in capability
from a locally built vessel. True air defence is provided by the
Shtil SAM system with launcher fore and aft while an impressive
surface punch comes from the four quad lauchers for YJ-83 anti ship
missiles. These vessels share a common hull form with the Type 052C
and it is unclear if more vessels of this class will be built as
cheaper complements for the 052C's. If they are it is probable a
new VLS for the Buk SAMs will be fitted.
