Description: Originally intended to carry the HQ-61 SAM these vessels
were eventually completed after much delay as relatively simple
surface warfare frigates. The SY-1 SSM carries a powerful warhead
out to a relatively short range and is largely obsolete today. The
AAW and ASW capabilities of these vessels are almost non-existent.
However as short range or coastal patrol vessels they are useful
units and when first deployed they were much better than what the
PLAN had at the time.
