12:00 - Ordered SSK Kobben south to cover Bergen. Detached AO Torpen from the
FF
Oslo group so it wouldn't be slowing them down. All ships ordered to edge of
fjords
while northern patrol boat group 'volunteered' for likely suicide duty of
locating the
enemy. Remaining subs converged to form a picket line north of the Oslo group.
13:00 - Separated northern patrol group about 8 nm from coast. MTB Arg directed
N,
MTB Skudd NW.
13:40 - 26 miles from the coast, Arg's radar went active. Picked up a 3 ship
convoy
35 miles to the NW and 2 other ships 10 and 18 nm distant. Designated them,
launched 2 Penguins at nearest contact and raced towards next at flank speed,
with
radar off again. Adjusted Skudd's course N to intercept convoy.
13:48 - Arg ordered active again. No sign of nearest contact, presumed sunk.
Second
contact fired upon with remaining 2 Penguins. Earlier 3 ship convoy now
determined
to be 9 ships. Arg ordered south out of missile range with intention of
shadowing
convoy later at extreme radar range. Assuming Arg survives.
14:10 - Arg is still alive, so assume radar emissions not detected. Ordered NW
again
to trail convoy from rear to provide intel to rest of fleet.
14:32 - Skudd is sunk by fire from a Sovremenyy without returning fire. Order
Arg
further N to get out of Sunburn range.
14:34 - Arg is sunk by Sunburns. Estimated position of hostile convoy in 10
hours
calculated, to prepare an ambush. Most northerly remaining MTB group split, 1
boat
heading north into island to spot convoy, one heading west to assist Oslo group.
16:55 - SSK Utsira, on station for ambush detects replenishment vessel Boris
Chilkin
via acoustic means within 14 miles. MTB Falk is 20 miles away, ready to assist.
Oslo
group is 37 miles distant - in Sunburn range, but as yet unable to return fire.
Directed towards nearest island to hide from radar.
17:00 - MTB Hauk gets visual on Boris. 34 nm away from Utsira. Goes active to
locate
escorts.
17:01 - Only one vessel detected at edge of missile range. 2 Penguins launched
while
Hauk runs for cover behind an island while remaining active to try and locate
more
escorts 2 Penguins launched at Boris as well to try and set him on fire.
17:04 - By now, hits have been registered on Boris and the other vessel. Hauk
goes
passive and hides in preparation for the ambush again.
17:34 - MTB Falk gets visual on a Krivak, the Zharkyy. She's heavily damaged
and on
fire, presumably the escort located earlier.
17:36 - Falk goes active to make sure there isn't anything else nearby and to
locate
possible missile fire from Zharkyy. Launches a Tp-61 at Boris to finish her off
and a
pair of Penguins at Zharkyy.
17:40 - Still no contacts and Zharkyy is sinking, so Falk goes passive.
18:01 - SSK Kobben, en-route to blockade Bergen, detects Nanuchka I missile
boat
heading north at 12 knots. Moves to intercept.
18:02 - Another ship is detected. Neither have been localised yet, even at
periscope
depth.
18:25 - Kobben returns to periscope depth and detects Nanuchka at 3 nm. 1 Tp-61
fired as Kobben dives out of sight.
18:30 - TP-61 hits.
18:57 - Risked a quick radar sweep from Kobben to locate nearby ship. Located 7
nm
away.
19:13 - Rise to periscope depth after flank speed dash to do another radar
sweep.
Vessel lcoated 5 nm away. Not much charge left for another deep flank dash to
get
within good firing range, so match target's speed with a flank dash at
periscope
depth to try and close while charging battery.
19:29 - Vessel identified as Nanuchka II. Tp-61 fired as Kobben dives again.
19:37 - Tp-61 hits.
19:56 - Kobbe resumes transit to blockade position.
20:00 - Victory dialogue appears.
Scenario seems fairly easy for Norwegians - patrol boats and
auxiliaries/merchants
are pretty easy to sink and locating a convoy to attack isn't very hard if
you're willing
to sacrifice a patrol boat. Even then, you can get lucky and not be detected.
Given the superior SSM range of the Soviets, a good way to stop this happening
might
be to have a radar to catch the patrol boats before they get in range, leaving
just the
relatively slow and short-ranged subs to avoid. Or just run far out to sea and
creep
down the west map edge in force.
