Went with the set up given at the tart of the scenario. I immediately ordered RAF Group 10 to a point NE of Iceland and 12 NE of the
America TG. I moved AG 12 East of Iceland to get any leakers. I launched the
ready RAF Phantoms to screen the America.
The F-15's at Keflavik were launched immediately in three groups of two planes each which I arranged in a horseshoe formation centered on Keflavik about
40-50 miles North of the air base. I gambled and launched four Ready F-14's off America in two groups of two and sent
them towards the center of Iceland.
After a few minutes I started to pick up unidentified bogies
East of Iceland and soon more appeared. I
immediately tagged any unidentified track as hostile. Rather than push my
fighters out too far I pulled them in towards Keflavik.
The first kills went to AG33 who took down a formation of five Backfire B
bombers using up all its Sparrows in the engagement. Then more tracks appeared
in waves with bombers at the front trailed by Badger jammers trailing behind. I
ignored the Badgers for now and concentrated on the bombers.
Once the bombers had passed behind my Hawkeye I went active with the E-3 and
the E-2 which gave me a good picture of the Soviet Wheel attack. What followed
was a Backfire massacre - all the attacking bombers were shot down -
including the formation from the SE which got closest to Keflavik (about 30 miles
or so) before any of them could drop a single bomb. I ordered my remaining
interceptors to follow and destroy the jammers. RAF AG 10 got 1 Badger J north
of Iceland with the USAF and USN polishing off the rest. Only 1 Badger escaped
unscathed when the RAF Phantom in Group 12 went Bingo fuel just before
intercept. At 20:29 Victory was declared.
