I found some time for Harpoon3 tonight and played Christopher Comars' Adriatic Nights scenario.
As the Yugoslavian Fleet Commander I was tasked with sinking a Croat resupply convoy headed for the city of Split (Intelligence sources gave me a pretty accurate idea of it's route). I was also ordered to conduct shore bombardment in support of our ground troops. Air support in the form of two sorties of the Yugoslavian Air Force was expected to hit the city of Split at 20:30.
For these two tasks I had been given two groups of ships:
Strike Group: consisting of two Osa I and two Rade Koncar missile boats each armed with Styx SSMs, tasked with intercepting the supply convoy.
Cover Group: consisting of FFG Beograd and FFG Zagreb armed with Improved Styx and tasked with shore bombardment.
In addition I commanded a Novi Grad class PBR which had no task specified in the Orders.
Comfortable with the situation I took command of my forces on February 23 1994, 19:00 Zulu.
At 19:00 a ship was visually detected by FFG Kosmaj and identified as a neutral trawler.
At 19:02 Skunk-34 was detected by ESM from Karlo Rojc and ID'ed as another neutral trawler.
I decided to set the radar on the strike group to intermittent to get a better view of my surroundings without giving the enemy too much information. I immediately detected skunks 36 and 37.
During the next 15 minutes I detected several more neutral trawlers and a pair of helicopters heading in my direction.
At 19:20 Skunk 36 was identified by Kosmaj as hostile (Solta). I immediately fired an Improved Styx from the cover group. Two minutes later Solta was sunk by a direct Styx hit.
At 19:23 Vrlika (hostile) was detected North West of the strike group. Two Styx fired at this contact missed and only with the a third missile was I able to sink this enemy ship.
Meanwhile the Bogies that were headed for my task groups were identified as hostile Hind D attack helicopters. One of them was shot down by Karlo Rojc's AK-230 30mm guns but the second managed to close in, sink FFG Kosmaj, and escape unharmed.
At 19:38 after detecting several more neutral vessels another Hind D appeared near the cover group and was subsequently shot down by Zagreb's AK-276 gun.
At 19:47 I detected three Skunks headed for the city of Split. This group was right on the path indicated by Intelligence.
At 19:54 two inbound Vampires detected. I decided to forego identification and act on the assumption that the intelligence was correct. I fired three Styx', two of the missiles missed and during the following missile exchange I lost all but one Osa I from the strike group, but managed to sink the three enemy ships.
At 20:18 the convoy had been dealt with and I decided to attack the land units with the cover force. I fired all remaining Styx missiles at installations around Split and closed to within gun range of the Barracks southeast of the city. I detected several more installations near the Barracks but soon dispatched all of them with naval gunfire.
At 20:36 Victory Conditions had been reached.
To sum it all up I would say that this is a very nice, small, and fast-paced scenario. Despite its limited size I was quite busy at times and many things were happening at once.
Losses, Yugoslavia:
1 Novi Grad
2 Rade Koncar
1 Osa 1
