This is unheard of. I finished a scen in one session. Admittedly this is a short sharp one but that isn't going to stop me being pleased with myself. The story line here is that the People Republic of China has launched a surprise attack on the ROC. SRBMs have smashed the Taiwanese defenses and the island is open for the taking. The only US assets in theatre are a pair of SSN's. You must intercept the PLA-N invasion fleet. The starting positions had my Seawolf off of Fuzhou in the north while the Imp LA was further south off Xiamen. I sent the subs in slowly towards the ports to find the transports that should have been heading out. Since playing sub captain is not usually my thing I didn't notice how shallow the water had gotten until my subs were coming to periscope depth and getting detections via ESM. Doh!
I was able to stalk the Seawolf slowly north into the path of the PHIBGRU. I the meantime the LA down south had run under its target group without making any detections. Upon being forced to periscope depth by the rising bottom she picked up the enemy force 12nm to here east, well on their way to Formosa. She was forced into a tail chase but once again was not detected despite being at 40m depth and running at 20kts. Not until she ran right under a Luhu DDG the PLA-N seem to know she was there. I was concentrating on the Seawolf's attack in the north at this time and didn't notice the rather suicidal course I had set.
Despite my errors both subs were able to close to Mk48 range and proceeded to sink the required 13+ transports. The Seawolf was fired on at least 5 times at this stage but running away at 40kts seemed to do the trick as far as E&E goes. The LA was not targeted as far as I could see. By preventing the loss of both subs I had met the victory conditions and was proclaimed the victor :-)
As I said sub scens are not usually my cup of tea, mainly because I lack the patience, but this one is short and sweet. Nice job Mike.
